Previous Action/Presentation
In September 2021, City Council approved the purchase of annual fiber maintenance for a total annual amount of $120,000 for a five (5) year term, for a total estimated amount of $600,000 from Capco Telecom LLC.
Background
In 2021, the City of Plano completed a three (3) phased project connecting 80 City facilities and 105 traffic intersections via a fiber optic network to increase network capacity, reliability, and resiliency. Since its implementation, the fiber optic network has become the City's standard connectivity solution. The network provides the primary communications infrastructure supporting business operations, public safety systems, traffic management, and other critical municipal services.

This purchase, if approved, will provide on-demand repair and Texas 811 locate services for the fiber optic cabling that connects City facilities and traffic intersections across the City. Texas 811 participation is required under the Texas Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety Act (the Texas One-Call Law).

If the City of Plano does not purchase this maintenance service, the City will be non-compliant with the Texas One-Call Law. Additionally, the City would be subject to time-and-material rates for fiber locates and repairs,...
