In August 2019, City Council approved the purchase of a Wireless Local Area Network Solution to include support and maintenance to NetSync Network Solutions, Inc. for a five (5) year term in the total estimated amount of $166,417.
Background
The City of Plano’s wireless network vendor has announced its end of support for our current wireless access points that are used across all connected City facilities that were originally purchased in 2019. Over the past seven (7) years, the City’s wireless needs have increased resulting in a much greater need for wireless networking coverage.
Technology Solutions would like to ensure that the upcoming hardware replacement will meet the growing need for wireless coverage across all owned or leased City facilities. To accomplish our goal, we are submitting the recommended wireless survey to help identify current coverage gaps, optimize the current access point placement, and provide a recommended future-state design. The results of this survey will guide the City of Plano with its upcoming Wireless Access Point replacement purchase.
This purchase, if approved, helps us identify coverage gaps, identify and decommission unnecessary and under-utilized wireless access points, and provide a foundation for wireless network infrastructure to meet the growing business demand.
If this purchase is not approved, it increases the risk of replacing access points that provide little to no value and allow coverage gaps to exist in critically needed areas of service.
The City is authorized to purchase from the State Contract list pursuant to Chapter 271 Subchapter D of the Texas Local Government Code and by doing so satisfies any State Law requiring local governments to seek competitive bids for items. Funding for this item is available in the Technology Fund. This request is to approve the purchase of a Wireless Network Survey from NetSync Network Solutions, Inc., in the estimated amount of $144,330, which is available in the 2026-27 Technology Fund.
Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
