Background
The Engineering Department recommends approval of an expenditure in the amount of $468,599.28 for engineering professional services from LJA Engineering, Inc. for 2026 Plano Traffic Signal Design, Project No. TP-S-00010. This project includes utility exploration, preliminary design, final design, and construction related engineering services for six (6) new traffic signals in the City and the modification of an existing traffic signal. The project is expected to improve traffic safety for motorists and pedestrians, enhance traffic flow, and provide an efficient and consistent driving experience.
LJA Engineering, Inc. was deemed most qualified based on their Statement of Qualifications submission for RFQ No. 2023-0003-X. LJA Engineering, Inc. also has successful experience designing traffic signal and intersection improvement projects around the DFW Metroplex. This firm has also demonstrated expertise in surveying, subsurface utility engineering, and pedestrian infrastructure improvements, all of which are essential to the successful completion of this project.
If the expenditure is not approved, the planned improvements will not move forward at this time, and existing traffic operations and safety conditions at these intersections would remain in place.
Financial Summary/Strategic Goals
Funding for this item is budgeted in the 2026-27 Street Improvement CIP and is planned for future years, as well. Engineering professional design services for 2026 Plano Traffic Signal Design, Project No. TP-S-00010, in the total amount of $468,599, will leave a balance of $179,401 for future expenditures.
Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
