Background

The Engineering Department recommends approval of an expenditure in the amount of $537,700 for engineering professional services from Teague Nall and Perkins, Inc. for Drainage Improvements - Various Locations (Project No. ENG-D-00017).

 

The project includes improvement of drainage and erosion control structures at eight (8) locations throughout the City of Plano, all of which are located adjacent to residential neighborhoods.

 

Teague Nall and Perkins, Inc. was deemed most qualified based on their Statement of Qualifications submission for Community Investment Program Civil Design RFQ No. 2025-0154-AC. Teague Nall and Perkins, Inc. has experience performing engineering services on similar drainage and erosion control projects for the City of Plano, including 15th Street Reconstruction, Prairie Creek Erosion Control Improvements, and Pecan Hollow Golf Course Erosion Control Improvements. Their team also has technical experience with surveying, subsurface utility engineering, and understanding of City of Plano construction standards.

 

If this expenditure is not approved, streambank erosion is expected to continue and storm drainage structures will degrade and may fail. Continued deterioration and erosion could result in localized flooding threats, environmental impacts, public safety concerns, and increased maintenance costs.

 

Financial Summary/Strategic Goals

Funding for this item is budgeted in the FY 2026-27 Municipal Drainage CIP and is planned for future years as well. Engineering Professional Services for Drainage Improvements - Various Locations, Project No. ENG-D-00017, in the total amount of $537,700, will leave a balance of $37,300 for future expenditures.

 

Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
