Background
Since 2006, the City of Plano has participated in the University of Texas at Dallas Local Government Management Certificate Program. Having this program has allowed the City to offer advanced development opportunities to our employees who seek to further their careers within the local government sector.
The City of Plano has graduated 42 employees through this program, with seven (7) of them going on to complete their Masters in Public Administration. This collaborative program has been very valuable toward developing future leaders and expanding their knowledge and skills. It has also been rewarding to see many of these individuals promote into manager and director level positions after completing this program.
The total cost of the program for five attendees over a four-semester period is $73,850. The cost for fiscal year 2026-2027 is $36,875 for the Spring and Fall 2027 semester. The cost for fiscal year 2027-2028 is $36,975.
If this recommendation is not approved, the City of Plano will lose a valuable resource for continuing development of its employees in the area specific to local government management at the executive level.
Financial Summary/Strategic Goals
Approval of this item will provide for City of Plano employee training. The term for this contract is two (2) years and expenditures will be made within the approved budget appropriations for each year of the contract. The estimated...
